The yearly character tournament has become a living document of the reboot era. We've celebrated the klassics, speculated about the future, and welcomed a new generation of kombat icons! In 2017, we're still seeing the series evolve in Mortal Kombat X Mobile and Injustice 2. Since the dawn of Mortal Kombat there has been a single unifying truth: the will to fight! Once a year we extend a traditional invitation to all realms so that one warrior may rise above the rest! In 2015, we greeted a new generation of warriors who joined the fight against Netherrealm invasion in Mortal Kombat X! After months of debate and many tens of thousands of votes, fans chose the fantasy of an unsung hero they hoped to summon: Fujin.

In March, MKX got super-sized and welcomed even more fighters through the komplete edition package of Mortal Kombat XL. Alas; last year's Supreme Champion winner was still beyond mortal reach! With renewed objectivity we must therefore ask the eternal question: Who is the Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion?

Star Wars Actor Confirms MKX Webseries Role

If you weren't distracted by holiday cheer in December, you may have noticed actor Ray Park confirming a role in this year's Mortal Kombat webseries!

The Scottish born martial arts actor has played starring parts in X-Men, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and The King of Fighters, but is best remembered for his portrayal of dual lightsaber wielding Sith Lord Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

According to tweets to fans, he donned the hat and twin pistols of sensational Mortal Kombat X newcomer Erron Black for this year's live-action webseries!

Creative Director Hints New Mortal Kombat X DLC Skins

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon recently returned en force to micro-blogger Twitter, whipping up a fan frenzy of interest and speculation ahead of the new year!

Most tweets have revolved around the usual general fandom and much lamented abandoned HD remakes [read more] - but amongst the miscellanea: the first definitive hints toward new content in 2016!

Mortal Kombat X newcomers Takeda, D'Vorah, Erron Black and Kung Jin have all been namedropped in nods to new costume skins coming soon to downloadable content!

Officially announced in September [full story]; new Mortal Kombat X DLC is scheduled for an undetermined date in 2016. New playable characters will be the headlining feature [teaser], but purchasable updates will also include fresh character skins and a new arena to stage fights in!

Mark the latter two characters confirmed for new skins, with just a hint of ambiguity around Takeda & D'Vorah. The Pit remains the safe bet based on previous hints, despite graphic assets emerging as part of a Halloween seasonal Premier Tower.

Time for Mortal Kombat X Mobile to update their apps! NetherRealm Studios has teased a new raft of kards and challenges right around the corner - including a new gunslinger in town: Erron Black!
